FAQ

We have had several questions that recur when potential clients contact us.  For your convenience, we have included them here with their respective answers.

Why should we have our wedding professionally video taped?
Quite simply, because you will have a professionally, detailed recording of everything that occurred on your wedding day, providing it occurred in front of the video cameras.  Your video will be steady, smooth flowing, well lighted, elegantly edited and have all of the "precious" moments perfectly recorded onto a video that you can watch again and again.

The most compelling reason we can suggest to you to have your wedding recorded on video is the same reason that we had our wedding recorded.  Your wedding day will come and go, the food will all be eaten, the flowers will wither, and all you will have left is a few photographs and memories.  A video allows you to relive that moment again and again and ensures that every detail of your hard work and planning is recorded.  Not just proof of your effort, but a genuine family heirloom to be cherished for years and generations to come.   Without video, the money you spend on most all of the other services is a ONE DAY investment  With video the money you spend on the other services is a LIFETIME investment!

Why couldn't we have friend or family member use their video camera to tape our wedding?
You can, but don't expect professional results.  Unless your friend or family member is well trained in video techniques and editing, you will be very disappointed.  Your video will more than likely be made from a VHS camcorder or 8mm .  The resulting video could be very grainy and the color balance inaccurate.  The biggest problem is that most home videographers don't have tripods to stabilize the video.  Your video could be very shaky.

We use multiple, professional UHF wireless microphones and "house" sound to pick up high quality audio.  We use high quality "low lux" broadcast video cameras.  In darker rooms, most home video cameras just don't pick up enough light to produce a professional looking video.  The result is a grainy looking video that is hard to watch.  We also use multiple cameras to get different angles.

Lastly, we use computers to digitally edit your video.  We can cut and splice different camera angles.  We can add text, music, slow motion and special effects.  If you use a professional videographer, you will ultimately be very satisfied with your video and will want to watch it again and again.

We have looked at other video services.  Why is there such a price range?
Just like other wedding professionals, "you get what you pay for"!  We have had several people say that they can get their video recorded for as low as $600.  Others have told us that companies charge over $5,000 to do the same thing we are doing.  The bottom line is equipment, building cost and expertise.

Our video service uses only the newest of digital technology.  This technology allows us to give you a broadcast quality video at an affordable price.  Five years ago our same studio setup would have cost over $100,000.  Now with digital we can afford a much better technology at far less costs. You get the best of both worlds!  This allows us to include more options in our packages without increasing your cost.

We also work out of our home office.  Therefore you do not have to pay extra money to cover separate building or electricity costs.  You get more from our company than any other building based business because we don't have that extra cost.  It allows us to offer you a far superior video at a price point below our competition!

How many cameras/camera angles can we have?
We have the possibility of using up to 3 cameras.  Using multiple cameras allows us to capture better camera shots from different angles.  This lets us get face shots from both the front and back, and get wide angle and more candid close up shots.  We do not offer a one camera package for this simple reason.  We also don't use more than three cameras because it only adds cost and creates a more obtrusive environment.

Weddings were meant to be pretty, not like a big movie production with cameras, lights & wires strung everywhere.  Our cameras are low profile digital cameras, so they are not obtrusive.  We do not use lights during the wedding, and we try to keep our cameras and staff out of the main wedding scenes.  The biggest compliment that we have ever had, is when guests have later said that they never even knew we were there!

Do you mix the audio and video from the wedding on-site like some other videographers do?
No, we do not.  Mixing audio and video onsite is something we have looked at.  It sounds appealing as a videographer because it is much faster than fully editing a video in a professional editing computer. However, there are many downsides.  You must run wires from each camera to the A/V mixing board, meaning you will have wires strung everywhere.  This is a setup for disaster if you have elderly family who might trip over the wires.  If you taped the wires down, then your cameras are locked in to fixed positions.  Then the camera person couldn't move to get the "good shots".

Second, there are no affordable editing boards in existence yet that allow pure digital mixing on more than two cameras.  If someone were to use more than 2 cameras they would have to use an analog mixer which would cause loss of the video signal, resulting in a severely degraded video.

Lastly, there is no way to predict the future, which is exactly what the mixing controller would have to do.  Once they switch the camera angle, that's it.  There's no way of getting the footage from the other cameras back on the master.

As appealing as getting it done fast sounds, we came to the conclusion that you wanted quality and not just something done for speed.  We use totally wireless cameras so wires will never be strung everywhere.  We keep our signal totally digital from start to finish, giving you a truly remarkable quality video.  We also record every minute of video from every camera while still using a wireless communication system to communicate to each other.  We then go back to the editing room and sculpt your perfect video from 100% digital footage that was taken from every  possible camera angle.  Our videos take us a lot more time to edit, but like fine wine, perfection takes time.

What is unique about your video service versus other local video services?
Every video package includes a Grand Finale Highlights Montage at the end of the video. We customize your video towards your needs not ours!

When you interview with us, you will get the same person you interviewed with as your videographer.  We do NOT use bogus high pressure jargon or sales tactics.  We hold ourselves to the highest of standards. All of this is to ensure that your video will be a cherished family heirloom for you, your children and for generations to come.

Won't the cameras be distractive and in the way?
One of our strongest appeals is our low profile equipment and techniques.  We do not use lights during the ceremony.  We use wireless microphones so wires are not strung everywhere.   One reason we don't like broadcast cameras is because they are huge and very distractive.  Our cameras are ultra low profile, digital cameras.  This keeps the focus on you, not our camera person or equipment.  We dress appropriately in colors that blend in to the crowd i.e. we do not dress in distractive uniforms that stand out.  Our goal is to get the best possible video footage, without anyone ever knowing we were there!

Our church has restrictions.  Will this be a problem?
No.  Many churches have restrictions on photography and videography.  It is your responsibility to get a list of any such restrictions and forward them to us.  This will ensure ample time to set up cameras, etc and allow for a smoother operation without conflicts during the ceremony.  e.g. Some Catholic churches do not allow a manned camera on the alter.

When should we expect to get the finished video tape?
It usually takes us about 8 weeks to complete a video.  Normally a single video takes between 30 to 40 hours to fully edit.  The final video will be approximately 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours in length.  Depending on the package, most videos include the childhood/dating montage, pre-wedding footage, ceremony, reception and highlights montage.

Can we choose what music is in our video?
Most of the time, yes.  We have a royalty free music library for you to choose from.  If you wish to provide us with your own music, we require that you provide written permission from the copyright holder.

Do you do interviews?
Yes, we call them "Well Wishes".  We set up the Video camera  somewhere quiet at the reception.  We typically video everyone in the wedding party, though it is optional for everyone.  After these "Well Wishes", we have the DJ or Band announce that anyone else wishing to leave you a message to come to the video setting.  And don't worry, we have help for those that can't think of anything on the spot.

Can you send us a sample video tape?
Absolutely, just send us your name, address, and wedding date and we will mail you a demo DVD and brochure.
